Galtee Honey Farm consists of artisan beekeepers – Micheál and Aoife Mac Giolla Coda, who are also lecturers in beekeeping. They keep Native Irish Black Honey Bees – a threatened subspecies. They are leading figures in their breeding and conservation here in Ireland. Their bees collect honey from a variety of flora throughout the countryside between the Knockmealdown and Galtee Mountains.
The honey which they produce is not pasteurised or overheated. Their bees are not treated with chemical or antibiotics. The welfare of their honey bees is very important to them. They also produce quality handmade candles from their beeswax.
